88 GT alternator to engine mount bracket (Page 1/1)
PAUL66 JUL 03, 09:50 AM
I just resealed my 2.8 and when I put the alternator back on, it is stuck and won’t rotate. When I look at it from the side I can see the bottom of the bracket looks sucked in. I loosened the bracket to engine mount bolt and the problem goes away. I dont remember a spacer between the two but it seems like it needs it. Any Info would be appreciated.

The only thing behind the low bolt of the alternator bracket is the top end of the L-shaped front motor mount bracket.
It is about 3/16" thick. Was the 88 engine mount bracket different?

Thanks for the pic. Now I am stumped, I knew there wasn’t a spacer back there but didn’t have the problem when I took it apart. It’s all original car 88 GT.

3rd is without washer, you can see the gap. 4th I put a washer in it and everything is good. I just am not sure why.

Things happen.

I had to put a washer behind my lower alternator bracket on my Indy's SD4
as well as behind the rear A/C compressor bracket (was throwing the V-belt)

I hate when that happens ... not a good feeling or confidence inspiring
