Applying replica body parts to stripped Fiero 1988 (Page 1/1)

I have a 1988 Fiero Formula that is stripped, I am asking what is the best way to attach the replica body parts? Can I use an Industrial adhesive to just lock them onto the body/frame? David

Not an expert, but I think its a little of both. Some of the kit panels replace factory panels and some get bonded onto factory panels. Depends on which kit you have. Keep doing research, its probably been done before, and somewhere here on Pennocks is all the info. Good luck and remember to include pics.

Welcome!

You may also want to look at Mad Mechanics, a kit car Forum.
I don't know how current or active they are.

This is a fairly detailed build on a Fiero chassis.

Welcome to the forum. I find searching the forum easier with Google at times. Here's how:

There are multiple methods, but it largely depends on how the panel is constructed, how it fits to the frame and your requirements... e.g. do you need to have the panel removable or not.

My favorite method for fiberglass panels is using bonding bolts attached to the panel using 3M panel adhesive, and then secured with several layers of fiberglass. This allows the panel to be bolted onto the frame and remain removable.

Check out my build thread and other threads in the construction zone.

If you are talking about aftermarket fiberglass panels, be prepared for a chore. We have done a few and most (but not all) all will need some fitting, adjustment and maybe some reshaping. Some that are pre-drilled will fit on using the original screw/bolt mounting points but others will need to be drilled. The job is doable and the result is sometimes excellent but it depends on how much work you want to put into the job for the result. Also not all body parts made by different manufacturers fit the same. The Duraflex panels are particularly hard to work with, while the ones sold by the Fiero warehouse (made my Sage) fit far better.
