Need a new battery. (Page 1/1)
Raydar FEB 18, 08:07 PM
I took my yellow top Optima off of the trickle charger a few days ago, and fiddled with the new tail light lenses. Only had the parking/tail lights on for a few minutes. (Probably not 15 minutes total.)
Went to start the car Saturday, and it didn't even have enough "oomph" to get the car started.
So... looks like it's time.

My battery is mounted in the front compartment. I don't care anything about buying another Optima battery, although this one has served me well.
My only requirements are that it be a sealed battery (I realize those are likely to be more expensive. Does that require AGM construction, like the Optima?) and it should have both side and top posts.
The ability to sit for a month and not go flat would also be nice. The Optima would do that when it was newer, but it's gotten more and more finicky. (I was gonna say "cranky", but I won't.)

IMO, Optima batteries are just not the quality of what they used to be. Agree the Deka Intimidator is one heck of an AGM battery. The Odyssey Batteries are also excellent. Those are probably the only batteries not manufactured by Exide or Johnson Controls

Costco batteries are made by Johnson Controls. It is likely that they supply different a quality levels.
Lately I have been buying the new Walmart economy batteries for $50 . They carry only a one year warranty but the last one that I purchased for my truck lasted 4 years. I believe that it is Exide brand sold under th Walmart name.
