Lower intake to block seal (Page 1/1)

The rtv between the block and the lower intake has been leaking oil and has recently gotten worse. I'm wondering if anyone has tried sealing this even just temporarily without removing everything and redoing it. I was thinking of trying to clean and remove as much old rtv from outside and laying a thick coat of fresh rtv on. Not sure how long it will last but hoping it will at least slow it down til I'm ready to tear it all apart.

I would pull it apart and fix it.
The intake to head gaskets may also be failing, if thats the case you could lose the engine.

If you're not concerned about pretty (washing, deburring, and painting everything), you can easily get the top end off and back on again the Fiero V6 in a weekend.

I wouldn't bother with trying the half-baked fix.

You won't even be able to clean the groove right; it will be contaminated with oil, and therefore, the RTV won't stick.

There's also the concern of potentially pushing pieces of RTV down into the valley, then ending up in the sump, sucked by the oil pump, and then blocking an oiling hole somewhere.
