Is a 3.4 DOHC hard to drop in a 86, 4 speed manual notchie?Besides engine, what else? (Page 1/2)

Been looking at engine swaps for fun, seems like everyone drops in a 3800, but the sound of a 3.4 DOHC IS SWEET! Just wondering what work and other things have to be done besides engine swap for a 3.4 on a 4 speed stock 86 2M6 notchie?

In terms of mounting, the 3.4 TDC/DOHC will almost bolt directly in place of the 2.8... The rest is plumbing and wiring.

Custom front engine mount
Dog bone and mount
Exhaust
Coolant plumbing
Power steering delete
Wiring harness
88 (or balanced) flywheel
New fuel pump
ECM, flash of ECM chip to new program
Throttle cable
AC hookup to compressor/hoses

Probably replace the clutch and TO bearing as well while it's all apart.

Anything I might say is probably worth what you paid for it, so treat it accordingly!

I believe that the 3.4LTDC flywheel and Fiero clutch will work as is, but you may need a HD clutch.

The 3.4 flywheel may work, but it's a little heavier than the Fierpo 2.8 flywheel, so use the Fiero 2.8 flywheel.
However, the clutch that went with the 3.4 is for the Getrag 284 transmission and has a *PULL*-to-release pressure plate. It will not work with the Fiero Getrag 282.

That might be the best choice but I believe that the 88 Fiero neutrally balanced flywheels may no longer be available.

The 88 V6 flywheels are still readily available:

It's the early externally balanced flywheels that are unobtainium.
