3.4 pushrod swap (Page 1/1)

question to those who have a 3.4 pushrod swap and id it to keep the engines original look for the purposes of a little more HP and torque for sheer cruising ability and a little more get up and go (not racing, or time trials, etc. etc. etc.) were you happy with it? if so what was the best improvement that you found with the swap?

Very happy with it. More power. The car is capable of going up steeper hills without the need to downshift and usually can still accelerate up them. Other than the larger displacement and larger fuel injectors, it's stock.

The 3.4, just as with the 2.8, really benefits from removing the restrictions from the exhaust manifold and the y-pipe.
There are several threads on how to improve these items.

I installed the crate 3.4l HT engine from GM in our 88GT: https://paceperformance.com...ne-discontinued.html

Don't drive the car much other than the odd casual time (only about 5k in the last couple years), but it does seem much better than the original 2.8l. I was having issues with the original and just decided to install the new one vs rebuilding the old - think it was worth it.

Sorry should have mentioned that I have sprint headers and aftermarket y pipe to go with it

I have a 3.4 push rtod engine installed in an 87 car and like it more than the 2.8. However, I need to say that it is not stock and does have some performance enhancements. I never really drove it in the stock configuration but installed the engine with a low boost (6-7 lb) turbo. I have since deleted the intake restriction by adding a Trueleo intake.

OP, weren't you looking for a turbo setup?

Is that still in the cards for your car?
