Fuel Pump shorting? (Page 1/1)

I have an 85 v6. I replaced the fuel pump (and filter) because had similar symptoms as the fuel pump tutorial and it sounded like belt whine. I tested the tank on the ground and it worked perfectly fine and when I put the tank up it would immediately blow a fuse. I fiddled around with some wires and got it running for about a minute where it died and blew any fuse I put in it (I got to 30 amps just to get it back in the garage). I figured out that it works perfectly fine if the straps aren't connected and resting on the cross member.

Is there power running to the straps? If so why?

No, there is not power running to the straps, but you could be pinching a wire when you install the tank.

That or wiring can be bad and rub/cut anywhere between pump to engine bay wiring.
You need to follow the harness from pump to back.
