How would I adjust the timing let alone check it because Is hard see the crank from the top of the engine. Just wondering. I wanted to check it.

It helps to first clean off the timing tab then get some white chalk then rub it on the marks and the timing groove on the crank. timing light then makes those marks glow like Christmas lights.

There is no adjusting the timing of the 87/88 2.5

Phonedawgz is correct. The ignition timing on that engine is not adjustable. There's a disc built into the crankshaft with notches on it. Those notches are used to determine ignition timing.

Also, since the base timing is built into the crankshaft, it's practically impossible for the base timing to be wrong.

Correct you can't adjust timing and also you can't view timing either because no marks on crank pulley.
You can't really see timing w/ an ECM scanner because timing is too fast for data steam to OBD1 scanners. ECM can/will change timing for each spark.
