88 Lowering options (Page 1/2)
Dave E Bouy JUL 08, 06:35 PM
Hi all. I am looking for options to lower an 88 GT. On my old 85 GT I used Suspension Techniques 1 1/2 inch lowering springs. It appears ST doesn't carry anything for an 88. Does anyone know what else is out there. Thanks

The Fiero Store used to carry '88 front and rear lowering springs (I have the rears on my Formula), but it appears they only carry the fronts for 88's now.

Fronts you have:
Cut stock springs (fiero or other application)
Rodney's lowering ball joints
Lowering springs
Dropped spindles (discontinued)
Coilovers - requires custom lower control arms.

Rears:
Coilovers

Rodney Dickman 1" lowering ball joints have worked for me. The "mini wide body" I have been working on has the ball joints and one cut coil.

Thanks guys. Guru, the coil over for the front intrigues me. Does anyone actually make a custom lower control arm for this? I'd like to drop it about 1 1/2 inches from stock.

Most vendors for the tubular lower controls arms for the front coilovers on the 88 have been discontinued. WCF might still offer something.

Yep,WCF has tubular control arms for the 88 but at 1100 bucks I think I'll just go with lowering springs TYVM. A bit spendy for me.

I run cut springs on the fronts of both of my 88s. I cut one coil.
If you are more cautious, start out with 1/2 coil, and cut in 1/2 coil increments.

The rear has since been lowered, as well.

This is a "before" pic.

We've had good results by cutting the springs.

Ok. Thanks guys. That may be the way to go then. So 1 coil is equal to 360 degrees then......ish?
